-88- SAMUEL, b. in Newbury, Ma. 30 Aug. 1729; moved to Falmouth, Me. with his parents ca 1735: m. int. 5 Oct. 1750 with a second cousin, Mary Knight (136) b. in Newbury 1 Oct. 1728. He was a carpenter and built the house where he lived at 11 Washington Ave., Portland. He had command of a company in the Revolution. He and his wife were both dead by 1789. In a deed dated 30 Oct. 1790 his children refer to the house as their father's old homestead.

He served in William Cobb's Co. in the Revolution. After the war, he settled in Otisfield in a land grant for veterans of the Revolution.

-93- MERRILL, b. in Falmouth, Me. ca 1744: m. Sarah Wilson? About 1794 he purchased 600 acres of land in Plantation No. 1, now the town of Peru, Me. With the help of his eldest son, he cleared some of the land, planted and harvested a crop and moved his family to their new home in the fall of 1795. His new log house with his harvested crops was destroyed by fire, and he was going to return to Falmouth, but nearby settlers contributed supplies to keep him through the winter, and assisted him in building another house.
