He was a carpenter by trade and a natural mechanic. had a good collection of minerals and Indian relics. was a musician and played the double bass in church. He was over 6 feet tall and very powerful. His sister. Mary (Knight) Brackett, in her diary. under date of 30 July 1890. wrote 'Stephen Knight went to the dome of the church today, to see if It is sound. He is 81 years old.'

-649- JOHNSON, b. 15 Dec. 1788: migrated to Pennsylvania as a young man and U'. in Chester. Pa. in 1816 Tamsin Levis. b. in Media, Pa., a Quaker and a descendant of Joshua Levis. who settled at Phila.. Pa. with William Penn. They had a farm on Slippery Rock Creek. near Portersville. Pa. and Johnson operated a mill on this creek. She d. in Portersville 17 June 1853: after her death he and some of his children moved to Pendleton Co.. Ky. abt. 15 miles south of Cincinatti. Ohio: there he operated a mill on Grassy Creek, near DeMossville, Ky. In 1861 after the Civil War began. his sons settled in Vermilion Co.. Ill., but Johnson remained in Ky.. and d. in DeMossville I Sept. 1867. ae 78. He was known as 'Yankee Knight', and his mill was still standing in 1939.
