-258- SAMUEL, b. 17 July 1777; d. In Lowell, Ma. 27 June 1858, ae 80; m. 18 Nov. 1800 Elizabeth Jordan, of Raymond, Me. b. 1781; d. in Lowell 11 July 1863, ae 92. His father gave him the old homestead, and they built a two story house beside the road, with a barn and stable. He kept a tavern, and the stage from Portland to Bridgton used to stop there overnight. In March 1855 he sold the place and went to live with a son, Dr. Cyrus Knight, in Illinois, but did not like Illinois and soon returned and went to live at the home of his son-in-law, Benjamin Patch, in Lowell. He was commonly called "Lt. Sam", from service in the militia. Three of his sons were doctors.
