He was a merchant, of considerable business ability and accumulated quite a fortune, but met with reverses, owing to the money panic of 1837, lost heavily. This is supposed to have hastened his death.

Nabby Chamberlain of Portland; however there was another Isaac Knight b. 17 May 1785 (894) who lived in Portland at that time (son of Samuel (383) and Rebecca (Young) Knight) and there is uncertainty as to which Isaac m. Nabby Chamberlain. A Nabby Knight, b. 1790, d. in Portland 1 Aug. 1857, ae 67, wid., and was probably the wife of Isaac.
